Habla Espanol? Students’ Success in Spanish Language Acquisition Speaks Volumes!
Spanish at Foothill Christian School is intended to introduce students to the culture and fundamentals of the Spanish language, with the purpose of helping them prepare for high school and ultimately to become bi-lingual. Spanish instruction begins as an enrichment class in third grade and increases in minutes and concentration every year. As a “core-class” at the junior high level all students must take Spanish everyday for two consecutive years.
FCS graduates are excelling in high school foreign language classes. Many students are placed in advanced Spanish courses and complete four years of Spanish rather than the two-year college prep minimum. When alumni visit the school they often mention that high school Spanish was an easy “A” because they were so well prepared. Their acquisition of a second-language speaks volumes to the inspiration and training they receive at Foothill Christian School..
Spanish is taught by Marisa Nicely in middle school and Ethel MacGregor at the elementary levels. They have developed a Spanish curriculum that helps students experience culture, build a vocabulary base, and engage in conversational Spanish with meaningful application including local and international field trips.
