Cheer Guidelines

As a cheerleader, you represent the school.  You must conduct yourselves in a Christ-like manner during practice, games, and regular school activities.

You must maintain a GPA of at least a 2.0.  The same academic guidelines will apply for cheer as they do in the school guidebook.

It is extremely important for the entire team to be at practices.  It hinders our team if some girls are missing.  You must attend all practices and games for the 2006-2007 season.  You are allowed 6 absences.  If you reach the 6th unexcused absence, there is a possibility of sitting out during games. Absence with a doctor's note is an excused absence. Two tardies count as one absence.  If you are planning to be gone during any of the scheduled games or practices, let me know as soon as you find out.

You must wear proper attire for practices and games.  During all practices you must wear: cotton shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, and hair must be pulled back.  (no dangly jewelry)

Cheerleading is your first extra-curricular commitment.  You are more than encouraged to participate in other activities; however, if they conflict with cheer, then cheer comes first.

FCS Cheer's Awesome Summer

This summer was increduble, the squad that God has put together this year is awesome. The Jr. High cheerleaders practiced intensely this summer before going to camp and it paid off. The were awarded Best Jr. High Camp Cheer, and 1st Place in the Camp Championship. Three of the members of the Elementary Competition Squad came to camp with us as well and wowed the camp also. Both squads recieved a Bid to Nationals and the coveted spirit stick. I am so excited about this coming cheer season and what the Lord has been doing, not only in advancing cheerleaders, but spiritual leaders.

Tips on how to improve your tryout performance

1)     Start to exercise weeks before you try out.  You need to be strong.  If you’re toned, your jumps and tumbles will be higher and stronger.

2)     Start gymnastics as soon as possible.  The entire squad should have their backhand springs.

3)     Practice your toe-touches.  Make sure your toes are pointed and your backs are straight.

4)     Don’t try something you know you can’t do.  You could end up getting hurt.

5)     When trying out you have to know that the try out isn’t only the time that you perform in front of the judges.  It includes the clinics; and even your performance in school.  So, it’s important to always keep a positive attitude.

6)     Don’t compare yourself to others.  You need to concentrate on YOU and have confidence in YOURSELF.

7)     Know what you’re getting yourself into and be well informed of the sport; cheerleading is an extremely demanding and time consuming activity.  Be dedicated and prepared to attend all practices and meetings.

8)     Stretch really well before tryouts.  The last thing you need is a pulled muscle.  Give at least 20-30 minutes to stretching.
